Can you reglaze the steel-framed windows in an Ashfield walk-up?

Yes, and it is one of the more common jobs we do here. Steel casements need the old putty and glazing clips removed cleanly, the rebate prepared and the new pane cut to the exact original size. We carry the clips and putty for it, so most single panes are done on the spot.

Our strata block has a smashed window. Do we deal with you or does the strata manager?

Either works. We can make the opening safe immediately, then deal with your strata manager or building manager for the approval and the invoice. We provide documentation of the glass specification so it matches the rest of the block for any future replacements.

Glass repair in Ashfield

Ashfield holds one of Sydney's densest concentrations of inter-war walk-up flats, and those two and three-storey red-brick blocks are a distinct kind of glazing job. Many still have their original steel-framed casement windows, where the glass is bedded in putty behind steel glazing clips and the panes are small and individually sized. Reglazing them properly means cutting to the original template and re-puttying rather than dropping in a modern bead-glazed unit. Around Ashfield Park the stock is Federation homes with leadlight and timber sashes, and the southern streets are largely Californian bungalows with wide front windows.

Because so much of Ashfield is strata-titled walk-ups, who pays for a broken window is often the first question. Window glass in a strata scheme is usually common property and therefore the owners corporation's responsibility, so we can invoice the strata manager directly and provide the glass specification for their records.
