No. Small, blunt pieces mean the panel was toughened safety glass, which can't be repaired once it breaks. The whole panel is replaced. We make the doorway safe first, then fit the new panel.

Safety glass in doors

Glass in doors must be Grade A safety glass under the Australian Standard AS 1288, so we never refit a door with ordinary annealed glass. The two common types are:

Toughened glass: heat-treated and much stronger than ordinary glass. When it breaks, it shatters into small, blunt pieces rather than large shards. Once broken it can't be repaired, so the whole panel is replaced.
Laminated glass: two layers bonded to a plastic interlayer. When it's struck, the broken glass stays stuck to the interlayer, so the opening stays covered.
